The NewcastleGateshead Art Fair is the largest commercial art fair within North East England and annually attracts 10,000 visitors over the open weekend and the VIP Preview Evening.
Its home is the Sage Gateshead, a world-class venue designed by Sir Norman Foster and home to the Northern Symphonia. With a huge glass wall and stunning views across the quayside, it creates a truly spectacular setting for an art exhibition and is a tourist attraction in itself.
The arts market in North East England has grown considerably over the last 10 years. Most notably with the opening of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest commercial art gallery, in the early 2000’s. The gallery scene has since exploded with numerous, important galleries openings including commercial galleries such as Whitewall Gallery and Castle Galleries, and critically engaged galleries like Globe Gallery, Locus + , Lazarides and Vane.
A strong marketing plan working with national and regional press, radio, TV and targeted distribution of materials and invitations, ensures the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair has constant press coverage and attracts the right visitor. In 2011 the Fair will continue to work with partners including the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Arts Council England, the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the Contemporary Arts Society and both Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council to guarantee the effective promotion of the event.
Following the success of 2010 many galleries have reserved their space for 2011 but applications are still open for those who wish to be a part of the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair 2011.
