Affordable Today... Priceless Tomorrow
We are delighted to invite you to become involved in the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair 2008 sponsored by HSBC, which will open on the evening of 11th September in The Sage Gateshead and take place over the following three days, 12th–14th September 2008. The Art Fair is in its second year following the success of the first event which took place adjacent to The Sage Gateshead which had 5,500 visitors. The Art Fair showcases artwork from leading modern and contemporary art galleries from within the UK and abroad.
Attendees to the fair will comprise corporate collectors, art buyers from the region and beyond, to view and purchase works from the exhibiting galleries. Tickets will cost £5. We anticipate between 6,000 and 8,000 to attend the event. It is an opportunity for art dealers and galleries from the UK and abroad whose interests involve painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and limited edition prints to reach their target audience.
Venue
This year we have moved to the unique venue, The Sage Gateshead. This internationally renowned venue creates an iconic setting for the second NewcastleGateshead Art Fair.
Using this world-class site will provide a perfect location to host the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair. The venue sits alongside the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, with its famous 'Blinking Eye', a first in engineering and design; and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
This vibrant and dynamic region is home to many new developments and initiatives, which has made NewcastleGateshead one of the UK's top 3 short break destinations.

National & International Recognition
Galleries from London, South West, Midlands, Scotland and abroad including Barcelona, South Africa and Russia came to NewcastleGateshead in 2007 with a wide range of galleries already signed up for 2008. Brining together 100’s of artists with a range of prices from the very affordable at less than £100 to several £1,000’s.
Such is the quality, profile and standing of this event in the arts calendar that we continue to attract international interest. Testimonials
"BALTIC is pleased to be working with the organisers of the Newcastle Gateshead Art Fair to build on the success of its inaugural Fair in May 2007. We are developing a series of seminars and talks around our Collectors Series and aim to co-ordinate a range of activities over the period of the Fair. There is a natural synergy between the Fair and BALTIC’s Collectors Series and we hope that by working together both projects will go from strength to strength."
Claire Byers (Director of Communications)
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art
"I was delighted with my own particular purchases this year [2007]! It's also a terrific way of picking the brains of the experts, and finding out about new and upcoming talent. It brought lots of people into the region, and I'd love to see it grow and prosper."
Wendy Gibson (BBC TV Presenter )
"A number of HSBC’s staff, customers and guests bought work, some for the first time, and some to add to existing or growing collections; we’ve had many enquiries as to when the next Fair will take place. The organisers generated genuine interest from visitors who have shown great enthusiasm to build their knowledge of, and collections of art
"Planning the 2008 event at the permanent location of The Sage Gateshead I have no doubt that the Fair will build on the high profile of 2007 and develop the art buying market this year and beyond."
